The application of aluminum could be easily seen in modern crafts. The high strength and weight ratio of aluminum makes it highly applicable for different purposes. The aluminum is a metal which provide rigidity with a fine amount of flexibility.

There are different kinds of finish given to aluminum. The main aim of finishing aluminum is to enhance its corrosion resistance and conductivity. The finished aluminum is visually appealing.

The finishing done to aluminum is divided into three categories which are termed as:

· Mechanical finish

· Chemical Finish, and

· Coatings etc.

These finishing are related to provide decorative and protective layer o aluminum which is further related to the weight and thickness of aluminum.

Aluminum Finishing, the Process

Aluminum finishing is the process that works well with all aluminum items. Aluminum finishing will give a shiner and brighter look to almost every aluminum product.

The resistance to corrosion of aluminum and aluminum based alloys are improved by aluminum finishing. Aluminum finishing is the process in which aluminum is cleaned and dipped in different acids. Further the electricity is applied to aluminum which results in its oxidation. It is carried out when aluminum is rinsed. After that, different colors could be given to aluminum metal by adding chromate in it.
The main aim of doing Aluminum Finishing is to preserve the luster of aluminum metal from corrosion. For this the chromic acid is heated at about 104 degrees F. It is given 50 volts of electricity and the whole process lasts for an hour. Aluminum Finishing is also done with the help of oxalic acid and sulphuric acid sometimes.

How Aluminum Finishing Works

Aluminum Finishing will make the surface of aluminum much harder then natural aluminum. In the process of aluminum finishing, aluminum oxide is produced which further becomes aluminum hydrate that is extremely hard. Aluminum finishing is carried out at much lower temperatures and at higher current densities sometimes.

For carrying out Aluminum Finishing, the aluminum must be of good quality. Aluminum Finishing works with the rule of “what you see is what you get”.Aluminum Finishing does not change the texture of metal completely but it do tend to magnify the surface texture of aluminum to give it a smoother finish.
