Aluminum, represented by Al, is a metal that exhibits the property of being most abundant metal in the earth crust. Aluminum is a good conductor of electricity and heat. It is very light in weight and soft in nature. But when mixed with other elements it forms several high strength alloys that are used in a number of industrial, aviation, engineering, construction and household applications.

Aluminum reacts with several other elements to form various aluminum compounds. An aluminum compound is formed by reacting aluminum with one or more elements. There are numerous aluminum compounds that are of great utility in several chemical, industrial and general applications. Here is a list of some of the aluminum compounds and their uses:-

1. Aluminum Borate: - Chemically this aluminum compound is represented as NdAl3 (BO3)4 and is useful in manufacturing ceramics and glass.

2. Aluminum chloride: - This aluminum compound is utilized in the production of paints, antiperspirants, in the refinements of petroleum and in manufacturing synthetic rubber. This aluminum compound is represented as AlCl3.

3. Aluminum Ammonium Sulfate: - The chemical formula of this aluminum compound is Al (NH4) (SO4)2. Whether it is about purifying water, treatment of sewage, manufacturing paper or using as a mordant, aluminum ammonium sulfate can be very effectively used.

4. Aluminum fluorosilicate: - Al2 (SiF6)3 is of great importance when it comes to manufacturing glass, ceramics and synthetic gemstones.

5. Aluminum Phosphate: - With the chemical representation as AlPO4, aluminum phosphate is a aluminum compound that is heavily utilized in the production of products of paper and pulp, varnishes, paints, cosmetics, glass etc.

6. Aluminum Hydroxide: - Aluminum hydroxide is utilized in the production of ceramics, glass and in making the fabrics waterproof. This aluminum compound also serves the purpose of a mordant and antacid and can be chemically represented as Al (OH) 3.

Apart from these very common aluminum compounds there are several other specific aluminum compounds such as Aluminum borohydride, Aluminum oxide, Aluminum sulphate and several other salts of aluminum. Because of their unique and outstanding features aluminum and aluminum compounds are increasingly becoming popular for several new industrial, chemical, automobile, aeronautical and construction applications.
